Managing IRLP reflectors

Each IRLP node, including the SARA system, is responsible for attaching to the reflector and disconnecting when done.  IRLP nodes can't attach other nodes to the reflector.

Bring up all the drop repeaters, then attach to the reflector, and bring up the F.A.R.S. system.  This means that folks on the reflector will hear the F.A.R.S. tones.  This may be a problem but we'll see how it goes.

Each IRLP node that attaches to the reflector should have itís own net controller to do local check-ins.  Unless there are only a few hams, such as Nipiwan.   And sometimes there might not be anyone there who wants to be net control operator. The lag time is a second or two in addition to the normal SARA two second lag time. Thus the person bringing up their IRLP node to the reflector should be prepared to be their repeater net control. 

If they have a net control operator then control must be verbally passed to the net control operator for each node and then they pass it back to the SARA system net control operator when finished.  You might want to have one go around at the beginning of the net and another at the end of the net.

Saskatoon reflector node detail    Note that the Saskatoon reflector owner has stated we should use node 9302.  If it's busy then use a different node but avoid using 9300 as that is in common use.   If we use a different node then the other folks who want to join the net must look at the IRLP reflector status screen to determine which node we are on and attach to that node.

This example shows how the Saskatoon reflector # 9300 page looked when there was a Saskatchewan wide net going on. You can see what IRLP systems are connected to the backbone by viewing the IRLP reflector node status page via an Internet connection. This will be trickier for those on dialup as their connection might disconnect and so on.   I ignored the top half of the screen as that isn't relevant to this page.
